Hi. Hola Colegas!
I hope you've all been enjoying summer as much as possible -- after all, you being able to access joy during stressful times is where it's at. Personally, I took a 2-week staycation that was full of sleeping in, going to the movies during the week, testing out new recipes and a return to running after a 7 yr hiatus.
Here are some lessons learned from the last 5 runs I've had in the last two weeks, that are applicable to starting EMDR and tolerating difficult emotions that can come with facing hard memories:
- When doing something new (or from another lifetime) it will feel awkward and maybe even painful the first time. Keep going.
- Start off slow
- Use any supports (resources) that can help you. For running I used the Netflix Show, "Love Life."
- Your body's tolerance will increase
- You will get better and faster even by the 3rd time
- Take breaks as necessary
- Challenge yourself when you can
- The goal doesn't have to be grand, shoot for consistency
I love using metaphors, analogies and short stories in therapy. It's how we make this work relatable and digestible. I'm known to use a lot of medical metaphors to describe EMDR and what happens to us while we're processing. My consultees have picked up on it and love to number them out. One of my colleagues uses car metaphors and I love it! Use what works and comes natural to you.

Intervention Spotlight:
I’ll be highlighting Natalie Gutierrez’s “The Pain We Carry” book and how I integrate Protector Roles (as she describes them) into EMDR therapy. This gem has added depth to my EMDR practice. I created a worksheet to help you and your client explore these roles and provide “A Seat for Every Part.” Welcoming all parts to the table will help you and your client understand the wounds that created the thoughts and behaviors that are attempting to keep them them safe or survive. It's a powerful intervention.
I highly recommend you to purchase “The Pain We Carry” book and Workbook as the protector roles are beautifully laid out. These resources are vital to helping our BIPOC clients heal from complex PTSD. You will use them over and over again!
✨ As a Consultant-In-Training I am able to provide up to 15 of your 20 consultation hours. In this Sept 2025 group, you will earn 2 hours toward certification. This is also a drop-in group. Not everyone in my groups desire EMDR certification and that’s completely ok. Only 8 spots available.
✨ Come for the discussion, consultation and community.

Today I'm spotlighting the canva templates I created for clients to create their Special Place. I call it special place instead of safe/calm place because some clients might struggle with those words. These templates can be helpful for clients who have trouble visualizing. Let them brainstorm by viewing and adding their own pictures.

I'm still promoting this webinar. This month I'll be donating to the American Diabetes Association because Black and Brown bodies are most vulnerable to diabetes, especially due to oppression and marginalization.

Therapy Business Things for you
I wanted to share this special deal that's being offered by my online course hosting platform Teachery. It's a great deal for lifetime and unlimited use. I've been using it since 2022 and I've been able to create a 1) therapy tools hub for my clients, 2) A Burnout Course, 3) my Unlocking Opportunities course on healers creating courses, 4) Where I host my Immigration Webinar, 5) An EMDR with Sofia hub for my consultees with a variety of resources, and many, many more planned... (for ex: an EMDR with Kids course, Training Academy, and many I've started but never finished lol). It's pretty versatile and what I love the most is that there are no hidden or monthly fees after you pay the one-time fee. It's a great business expense that can help you expand your service reach. If you purchase from my affiliate link below, let me know and I'll send you some of my favorite resources to help you build your courses or hubs, or even meet with you 1:1 to help you brainstorm your course idea.
Lastly,
Dear colegas, I hope you're finding time to nourish and restore. Know that you're allowed rest and joy. The movement needs it.
Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or want to share any EMDR resources you offer or have been helpful to you. I would love to spotlight fellow colleagues who are a part of my vast network of helpers.
Hasta Luego,
